Overview of RS-232 Command Sets

AOR have produced many receivers over the years having an RS-232 control capability and is probably the best for performance, features and ease of use.

Most of the models produced conform to the same ASCII (text) command interface with only minor differences between the AR-3000/AR-3000A, AR-3030, AR-2700, AR-8000, AR-8200 and AR-5000. The AR-7030 uses an innovative direct memory access technique and is binary in nature- details of this interface are given on the AOR website: http://www.aoruk.com. The SDU-5000 spectrum display unit uses a combined ASCII and binary interface. The SDU-5500 spectrum display unit uses an ASCII only interface. I also include here details of the (long discontinued) AR-2500 receiver which uses a unique ASCII command structure with binary parameters. The ARD-2 is AOR's ACARS and NAVTEX decoder; although it does not support RS-232 commands, it does output formatted text via RS-232.
